Transport of large transformer will affect overnight traffic

Over the weekend, a transport company will be moving a large transformer from Portland to Clackamas.  The load will be an over height one that will travel a specific route and traffic will be required to stop at times as the load approaches. Here's the schedule:

Saturday Evening

  • Load will begin on U.S. 30 at Marine Way, travel across the St. Johns Bridge to the U.S. 30 bypass on Lombard.
  • Load will travel eastbound on U.S. 30 bypass until it reaches east Multnomah County.
  • Load will stage on Northeast 181st and Sandy until Sunday night at 10 p.m.

Sunday Evening/Early Monday Morning

Spending Urban Renewal Funds

An interesting item on the Portland City Council agenda Wednesday was the ordinance authorizing
three Intergovernmental Agreements with the Portland Development Commission to provide Urban Renewal Funds for the Interstate Corridor Urban Renewal Area.

If you live in that area, here's what you can expect:(From Item #1598)

1. Humboldt Elementary Safer Routes to School: PDC has committed to work with theOregon Solutions team to implement safer travel connections between Humboldt School and the surrounding community. This IGA covers the design and construction phases of this project. Bureau of Maintenance (BOM) will construct the curb extension. The estimate for this project is $125,800.00.

2. Community Enhancement and Safety: Crossing improvements will include new traffic signs, marked crossings and bicycle lanes. This IGA covers the design and construction phases of this project.

Want to learn more about the Columbia River Crossing project?

A public educational forum will be held Saturday, Nov 21 to bring folks up-to-date on the project and talk about the surrounding issues.

A team of students from the Sustainability Clinic at Willamette University College of Law will share their research on health and environmental impacts, the laws that govern the project and the process for the project moving forward. Also, Jeri Williams from the Office of Neighborhood Involvement will talk about her involvement in the project. And there will be short, small group discussions as well.

St. Andrew's to serve up Thanksgiving dinner

Thanksgiving dinner will be served in the basement dining hall at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 26. The church is located at 7600 N. Hereford Ave.

The number 75 bus stops two doors away on N. Lombard and there is plenty of parking and wheelchair access.

Volunteers are needed on Wednesday to chop, peel and cook and on Thursday to serve dinner and clean up.
